  • Swift Action Averted Stampede During RCB Win Celebration In Hyderabad: Cops

A potential stampede was averted through swift and firm action after celebrations over Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title turned unruly near the state Secretariat on the night of June 3, said the Hyderabad police on Thursday.

While fans across Hyderabad took to the streets to celebrate RCB’s win, chaotic scenes emerged at certain locations – particularly near the Secretariat – prompting police to rush additional forces. Mild force was used to disperse revellers who were behaving in a disorderly manner, police said.In the RCB’s IPL victory celebrations over 20,000 people gathered from Secretariat road to IMAX circle which led to a massive traffic jam. Ambulances were stuck and the public faced inconvenience. But the Hyderabad City Police responded swiftly & firmly, and averted a potential stampede situation and safeguarded many lives. The Telangana State Police and Hyderabad City Police remain committed to ensuring public safety at all times,” the Hyderabad City Police said in a post on ‘X’ on Thursday. In a post on ‘X’, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said, “Watching and hearing about the stampede in Bangalore made me wonder where we are going ! This is not a national team winning the World Cup ! It’s a mere franchise called RCB which works on commercial lines and does not have a single Hyderabad player in it !? It’s not even a # Hyderabad-based team!”

He said hordes of youngsters and revellers descended on Tank bund, NTR marg and Necklace road (near Secretariat) and behaved in an unruly manner due to which traffic got jammed in all directions. He said seeing the situation and the hooliganism, extra forces were rushed and a lathi charge was done to disperse the unruly crowd.

“From a police officer’s perspective, this unannounced celebrations on the streets by large gatherings are a big danger to public safety and may lead to exactly what we saw in Bengaluru. What if there were some deaths in Hyderabad too ? Can anyone expect celebrations for RCB in Hyderabad city ! But with the social media playing a huge role across the country and the globe , perhaps police has to be alert for everyone and everything in future ! Is it humanely possible to do so – is what I am wondering,” Anand said.

  • No Coaches Derailed: Southern Railway On Passenger Train Scare In Tamil Nadu

A mild scare unfolded on Saturday night at Chitteri railway station in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu after the loco pilot of the Arakkonam–Katpadi MEMU Passenger Train (No. 66057) detected an abnormal sound and promptly halted the train — preventing a potential mishap.

Initial reports suggested a derailment, with visuals from the scene showing a visibly damaged section of track. Eyewitnesses recalled hearing a loud noise shortly after the train departed from Chitteri station, prompting the pilot’s quick response. A senior police officer at the site confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties.

However, Southern Railway has since issued a clarification that no coaches were derailed. The incident occurred on the Yard Road 1 loop line at Chitteri station — a designated maintenance caution spot where a 20 kmph speed restriction was already in place.

According to the railway’s statement, the loco pilot, alert to the situation, stopped the train at 9:15 PM after hearing an abnormal sound. Upon inspection, he found a weld fracture on the track. This defect had already been identified earlier and secured with joggle fishThe train remained halted for about an hour before the track was declared safe, and it proceeded through the same section. Train services in the section are now running normally, with no disruption to schedules.

While the incident triggered concern due to Chitteri’s past safety record — including a deadly train collision in 2011 that killed 11 and injured over 70 — this time, swift action by the loco pilot and pre-existing safety measures helped avert any harm.

  • 2 Accused Watched As I Was Raped”: NDTV Accesses Kolkata Student’s Complaint

Kolkata Student gang-raped: This horrific incident comes 10 months after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the city’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Two men watched as a third raped a 24-year-old Kolkata college student in a guardroom – after having bullied the guard into leaving – at the city’s South Calcutta Law College late Wednesday night, according to the details of a police complaint accessed by NDTV this evening.

In a complaint filed Thursday evening, the woman said three men – whom she only identified with the initials ‘J’, ‘M’, and ‘P’ – cornered her at 7.30 pm after a meeting of the ruling Trinamool Congress’ student wing. She said ‘M’ and ‘P’ locked her in a room with ‘J’, who tried to rape her.

“I fought back… I cried and asked him to let me go… I even touched his feet but he didn’t let me go…” she told the cops, “He tried to force me with the intention of having sex. I kept pushing him back. I asked him to let me go. ‘I can’t do this, I have a boyfriend and I love him’, I said.”

    ‘I Had A Panic Attack’

She also said she had a panic attack during the assault and begged for an inhaler.

“I had a panic attack and (was) having shortness of breath. Then ‘J’ called ‘M’ and ‘P’ to come inside. I asked for help but they were not helping me. Then I told them to bring an inhaler for me… ‘M’ brought that. I took it and felt better,” she said and told the cops she then tried to escape by running outside. But, according to the woman, the men caught her and the attack continued.

The main gate, she said, had been locked “and the guard was helpless and did not help”.

She said she was then bundled into the guard’s room (the guard was thrown out) where “‘J’ undressed me and started raping me. When I fought he blackmailed me…”

The woman said throughout the alleged rape and after she had been threatened – on pain of death of her family and boyfriend – to not tell anyone about what had happened to her.

  • Jaipur Man Arrested For Raping Two Daughters For 5 Years: Cops

Police filed an FIR after recording statements of the girls and their mother through a hidden camera. The woman had refused to file a case due to fear of society and her husband.

A man was arrested and sent to jail on Thursday for raping two minor daughters for about five years, a senior police official said.

Police filed an FIR after recording statements of the girls and their mother through a hidden camera. The woman had refused to file a case due to fear of society and her husband.

The case was registered at Sadar police station and the investigation was handed over to a senior police officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar told PTI, “On June 20, the mother reached the hospital with two daughters complaining of stomach ache. Both were in bad condition. The mother told the doctor that both the girls were complaining of stomach ache and mental stress. When the doctor inquired, the truth came to light.” The DCP said that the accused was arrested, presented before a court and sent to jail.

Mr Kumar said that on June 21, the Association for Voluntary Action, an organisation working against child labour and child sexual violence, received information from Aasra Foundation that a woman from Sadar police station area wants to talk about sexual abuse of her daughters.

On this, the NGO contacted the woman. The mother and minor daughters were taken to a safe and quiet place for counselling. It was revealed that the minor girls were raped by their father, Mr Kumar said.

“We made an action plan, got the counselling videographed with a hidden camera as the woman had refused to register a case. Therefore, Chitrakoot Circle Inspector Antim Sharma was asked to counsel the woman and girls in the presence of the NGO.” The NGO report and counselling provided enough evidence, following which the police registered an FIR.

After this, the girls were examined by the medical board. After the medical reports confirmed the facts, the accused was arrested. The investigation so far has revealed that the accused had been raping his minor daughters for five years.

  • Delhi Minister Inspects Night Shelters, Flags Corruption, Warns of CBI Probe

Ashish Sood warned of a possible Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe if required over the alleged mismanagement.

Delhi’s Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood conducted a surprise inspection of five night shelters at Sarai Kale Khan parking site on Thursday and flagged serious irregularities.

Slamming the shelters as “corruption hubs” under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Mr Sood warned of a possible Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe if required over the alleged mismanagement.

Accompanied by the officials from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), Mr Sood pulled up both department staff and NGOs responsible for managing the shelters, citing missing attendance registers, unclean conditions, and cases of poor laborers being exploited by the shelter management.

“The condition of these shelters is appalling. What was supposed to be a refuge for the homeless has been turned into a racket where poor residents are made to work for Rs 5,000-6,000 while lakhs are siphoned off from government funds,” the Minister said.

According to the Minister, complaints about the poor functioning of night shelters had been surfacing for a long time through citizen letters and public memorandums. He alleged a “massive scam” carried out in collusion between AAP-linked NGOs and government officials.

Mr Sood accused AAP leaders and affiliated NGOs of defrauding the public exchequer under the guise of social work. “No register, no staff, no basic facilities – this is how the previous regime functioned. We cannot tolerate this betrayal of the city’s most vulnerable,” he stated.

“If needed, we will hand this over to the CBI. No one, be it political leaders, NGOs, or officials, will be spared if found guilty of looting the funds meant for the poor,” Mr Sood told NDTV

He also directed DUSIB to fix accountability on responsible officers and warned the agency running the shelters to strictly adhere to quality standards or face stern action.

While visiting the shelter homes, Mr Sood also interacted with some of the residents and assured them that no night shelter would be demolished and dismissed rumors to the contrary, instructing police to act against those spreading misinformation.

  • We Couldn’t Leave the Hotel”: Rohit Sharma on Intense Security Measures Pre‑T20 WC Match

Rohit Sharma shared some intriguing details from the build-up to India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup

Retired from two of the three formats, Rohit Sharma has now got the time to sit back, relax, and look back at some of his recent achievements in international cricket. Though the ODI World Cup dream still remains unfulfilled for Rohit, he did manage to lead the national team to the T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 titles recently. These events also included some gruelling contests against Pakistan, India’s arch-rivals

During an interview on JioHotstar, Rohit shared some intriguing details from India’s T20 World Cup campaign, especially as the team was preparing for the match against Pakistan.

“Before the India vs Pakistan match, we were told there was a threat – something was going on. So, two days before the game, we weren’t allowed to step out of the hotel. The atmosphere started building from there,” Rohit said on JioHotstar.

Though Indian captains often dub matches against Pakistan as ‘just another contest’, Rohit admitted that the statement isn’t really true.

“We were ordering food in, and the hotel was so packed you could barely walk. Fans, media – everyone was there. That’s when you realise this isn’t just another match – something special is about to happen. As soon as we got near the stadium, it already felt like a celebration – Indian fans, Pakistani fans, all dancing and enjoying themselves,” he added.

“I’ve played so many India-Pakistan games now – I’ve lost count – but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. Nothing compares to it,” he further said.

In the T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan, it was Rishabh Pant who scored 42 off 31 balls in an innings that saw the Indian team being dismissed for 119 in 19 overs.

“We just wanted Rishabh to be Rishabh – do all the things he does best, unsettle the bowlers, play freely. And he did that perfectly. His innings was around 42, and on that pitch, that’s as good as scoring 70.”

In the match, Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be the team’s saviour again, with three wickets to his name, helping the team secure a 6-run win.

“With Bumrah, you’ve got to be proactive in how you use him. He’s a wicket-taker, and at the same time, he’s not going to leak runs. So, how do you balance that, especially when the opposition is chasing at a run-a-ball? Arshdeep has been phenomenal too,” said Rohit Sharma.

“Over the last two years, there’s a reason he’s become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is – he’s a really smart bowler. So, with both of them, my focus was on how to use their remaining overs strategically,” he added.

  • Pentagon’s THAAD Use in Israel Sparks Stockpile Concern

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The United States used up a total of 15 to 20 per cent of the country’s advanced anti-missile system or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to bolster the defence against Iran’s aerial strikes during the 12-day conflict in which Israel and the US struck nuclear facilities.

According to Military Watch Magazine, an estimate of 60-80 interceptors were utilised during the conflict. A single launch of a THAAD interceptor costs between $12-15 million, so the entire cost of these interceptors sits between $810 million to $1.215 billion. This figure dwarfs the cost of Iran’s missile barrages. This asymmetric cost of defence versus offence is not sustainable in the long term or multi-front conflicts.

Per the Wall Street Journal, the US had restocked the THAAD system set up in Israel in 2024.

Iran had launched a barrage of missiles on cities across Israel in response to attacks on its nuclear and military facilities. They included models such as Ghadr, Emad, Kheibar Shekan, and the Fattah-1 hypersonic missile, which is hard to intercept as it travels at up to Mach 15.

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The THAAD system was designed to counter the expanding missile capabilities of nations like North Korea and Iran as they were pursuing medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of delivering conventional or nuclear warheads.

Moreover, the United States produces only about 50-60 THAAD interceptors annually, which means it could take years to replenish what it just expended in 11 days.

The war between Israel and Iran came to an end after US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that a “complete and total ceasefire” had been reached by both the parties. In the end, the US-Israel campaign has managed to contain, not defeat, Iran. Nuclear sites were hit. Military leadership was shaken. But Iran’s regime, and its nuclear ambition, remain intact.

  • Organised Smuggling Ring Uses Child’s Luggage in £1.6M Mauritius Bust

The six-year-old was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

A six-year-old British boy was detained in Mauritius after customs officials found 14 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside his suitcase. According to The Telegraph, the child was detained alongside seven other people at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport on Sunday. The group was reportedly carrying more than 161 kilograms of cannabis, worth 1.6 million pounds (approximately Rs 18.8 crore), hidden in the luggage. Seven of the suspects were British, including the boy whose luggage contained 24 packages of drugs wrapped in clear cellophane.

The group was stopped at the main international airport in Mauritius as they disembarked from a British Airways flight from Gatwick, per the outlet. The boy’s mother was also arrested and had 17kg hidden in her own bags. The eighth suspect was reported to be a Romanian living in Britain. He was allegedly holding 32 packages of cannabis.

Mauritian authorities described the use of a child to transport drugs as “outrageous and inhumane”, adding, “This is one of the most revolting cases we have encountered in recent years”.

The boy was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

Authorities discovered 11 Apple AirTags, suggesting links to a drug gang. The drugs cache was found during a joint operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) and the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (ADSU) at the airport. Officials are treating the group as part of an organised crime network responsible for smuggling drugs from Europe to Mauritius.

The seven suspects, 5 women and 2 men, have been charged with drug trafficking and placed in custody. They appeared at Mahebourg court on the island’s south-eastern coast on Monday, with all remaining in pre-trial detention.

Authorities also carried out a series of targeted raids on hotels containing British nationals after police received a lead that more foreign passengers may have been transporting drugs. No arrests were made at any of the three locations searched
